Clash Reported Near Lebanon-Israel Border
The Lebanese group Hezbollah claims to have engaged an Israeli military unit near the border town of Wazzani in southern Lebanon on Sunday.
According to a statement from Hezbollah, they used “appropriate weapons” that resulted in direct hits on the Israeli force. Separately, Hezbollah also said its fighters struck an Israeli surveillance system close to the border.
No details about casualties were provided by Hezbollah. The Israeli military has not commented on the claims.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported artillery shelling by Israel struck the Lebanese towns of Al-Khiam, Marjaayoun and Wazzani. No injuries or damage were confirmed at this time.
Tensions have fluctuated in recent months along the Lebanon-Israel boundary, with sporadic exchanges of fire reported between Israeli forces and Hezbollah. This comes amid Israel’s ongoing military operation in Gaza that began in October 2021 in response to rocket attacks by Hamas.
The Lebanon-Israel frontier saw its worst violence since the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah. All sides continue carefully monitoring the sensitive border area.
