“Maghreb Must Grab the Chance to Unite”
Here’s something interesting I read today. As well as growing discontent with the hypocrisy of regional integration attempts, the atmosphere of resignation is increasingly palpable in the Maghreb. Given the effect of the free market economy on the marked improvement of living standards in Morocco, while its brothers and sisters in resource-rich countries are struggling to obtain basic foodstuffs, it is clear that there is an urgent need to increase regional trade.
As we dig deep on it, political sacrifices will have to be made and the effect of regional trade will have to be mitigated at first but the vision of Morocco’s King Hassan II to make the Arab Maghreb one country with one passport where one identity and one currency at the time of the formation of the AMU can definitely be accomplished with the territorial integrity of its members intact.
