Tunisia’s significant trade guild pronounces a general strike on 16 June
Tunisia’s strong UGTT trade guild pronounced a general strike on 16 June in dissent to the public authority’s refusal to change public organizations, Anadolu News Agency reports.
In a proclamation on Tuesday, the Union said the strike was classified “over government’s reluctance to change public organizations”.
It said the general strike will cover 159 public foundations in the country.
Tunisia faces its most terrible monetary emergency and is looking for a $4 billion credit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The UGTT, which has in excess of 1,000,000 individuals, calls for wage increments for state laborers as expansion arrived at a record level of 7.5 percent in April, from 7.2 percent in March and 7 percent in February.
Tunisia has been in the pains of a profound political emergency since 25 July 2021, when President Kais Saied excused the public authority, suspended parliament, and expected chief power, in a move censured by rivals as an “overthrow.” He later disintegrated the parliament in March, after legislators held a meeting to renounce his actions.
