Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu visits Azerbaijan; condemns Armenia and calls for a ceasefire

Yesterday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu (Mevlut Cavusoglu) expressed his solidarity with the President of Azerbaijan during his visit to Baku and recently clashed with Armenia. Although Russia, France, and the United States have repeatedly called for an international ceasefire, the conflict continues.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu condemned the ceasefire and called on the international community to support Azerbaijan. He pointed out that the armistice in the past had neglected Armenia’s control of Azerbaijan’s territory.

According to the Associated Press, Kavosuglu was quoted as saying: “Let us cease-fire, okay, but what will happen after that? Can you tell Armenia to immediately withdraw from Azerbaijani territory? Or can you make a settlement for the withdrawal? Plan? No.”

The most recent conflict began on September 27, when the Armenian power attacked locals in Azerbaijani settlements and military locations that caused casualties.

Over the past week, military activities in Nagorno-Karabakh, a conflict zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan, have killed many people on both sides. Although the two countries have been fighting to occupy the territory for more than 10 years, analysts believe that the recent conflict is the most serious. Since then, the relationship between the two territories has been from that point forward.

During the Soviet era, the Nagorno-Karabakh region was an autonomous region of Azerbaijan. It gained independence from Azerbaijan in 1991. A large-scale war that broke out in 1992 killed approximately 30,000 people. When the war ended in 1994, the Armenian power took control of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Recently, Armenian leaders alleged that Turkey was involved in the supply of weapons and fighter jets from Syria to Azerbaijan. However, Turkey has denied this accusation and has publicly supported Azerbaijan in the recent ongoing conflict.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also met with Turkish FM Cavusoglu, and he expressed his gratitude to Turkey for its support.

Aliyev added that Turkey’s support has encouraged us and made us more vibrant while ensuring the prosperity and stability of the province.
